Bounce rate is a type of metrics in Google Analytics that represents the percentage of visitors who visits a site but leave it shortly rather than moving to another page within the same site. If a site have higher bounce rate then there may be several reasons behind this like -

• Site does not have the information or content that user seeks.
• Site have poor navigation
• Site loading time is high
• Site does not have inter links
• Poor Sidebar
• Excessive use of pop-up’s
• Bad blog design

How Bounce Rate is calculated ::

Bounce can be calculated as -

Bounce Rate = Number of visits with one page and left / total number of visits

Let me explain this formula in deep, suppose my site received 10,000 visits/month out of which 6000 left my site after visiting just one page in that case bounce rate calculated as -

Bounced visits (6000) / total visits (10,000) = 0.6 x 100 = 60%

We can use bounce rate as a powerful metric to measure the quality of traffic to your site.

Let me clear two things to you -

• Lower bounce rate = Your site is performing well.
• Higher bounce rate = Your site is not performing well.

Having higher bounce rate indicates that site does not have the relevant content according to the user's need or may be some other reasons that makes your visitors bouncy and you should be bother about high bounce rate of your site.

Having Lower Bounce rate means your site has the capability to stick out the users and visitors and it may results several things like increases page views, increase page rank and the most important thing site's trustworthy nature.

Ways To Reduce Bounce Rate ::

1. Create High Quality Content ::

Remember one thing Content is The King of any site or blog, you should know about how to write a quality post if your content is useful or informative then no one wants to waste his/her time to read your low quality post.  Always try to write some useful information that visitors want to share with others.

Let ask a simple question to yourself - Is my site or blog has Quality Content ? if you got the answer yes then there is no problem but if you got negative answer from yourself then you should bother about it.

2. Interlinking ::

Interlinking is an another way to reduce your site's bounce rate, when you link a post to another post to your site then it is called as interlinking and the good thing is it helps to increase the page views as well. 3. Use Related Post Thumbnail Plugin ::

Another way to reduce bounce rate is to show related post widget after the post. It helps to bind your visitor to your site. There are many related thumbnail plugins are available such as -

• YARPP (currently I'm using it on my site)

• Outbrain
• Linkwithin, etc.

4. Show Popular Post in Sidebar ::

You can do several things with your sidebar, you can make it Interactive or you can make it ugly choice is your. But i recommend you to make your sidebar interactive by adding some interactive widgets such as -

• Popular Post (you can customize it)
• Facebook Recommendations
• Twitter Recommendations

5. Site Loading Time ::

Your site loading time should be less. Make sure you are using only useful plugins and widgets. Try to remove extra plugins and widgets. Use better hosting service.
